A hot one at Tamworth.

FBBB put chilling out to the bottom of the list as it served up another hot tomali at the Snowdome on a roasting Saturday night!

Another late one at Tamworth Snowdome and another stop on the FBBB 2009 tour.

In the middle of the summer, with temperatures causing thunderstorms that made your pants squeak, we were wondering how many riders would turn up to the dome for a cooling night of shred.

As the FBBB tour leaves it trail of shred destruction around the country, the following that is has been gathering has been immense, and events so far this year have been packed…in fact, people have even been turned away due to the popularity of the events. Would Tam be any different?

It was pretty quite on our arrival at the dome, and the usual noise and anticipation was scarce – perhaps everyone was finishing up at barbecues before coming to rock out with some freestyle stunts?

Who knows? But after a quiet start, the riders eventually started to rain down the slope over an array of obstacles and hits that had been scattered about.

FBBB_tam_sean_gawpIt was another of those frantic nights, and around 11 o’clock, the flow of riders hitting up the park was like a constant shotgun. Trick after trick after trick. It was difficult to keep track of who was doing what and on which hit, especially as the riding was getting more technical by the run. This was an intense session.

The local contingent were pretty intent of remaining superior on their home turf – the usual suspects claiming some sweet technical moves on the park; Ross Needham, and Jake Overton, who both rode well at Hemel, kept it real while visiting Charlie Clark, Johnny Russel and FoTP’s very own Gazza Andrews threw down some monster styles. Charlie Clark was the only rider on the night to get to the top of the wall ride…he didn’t land it, but just getting up there was pretty special.

Also big shouts go out to the Rookie of The Night – Lucy Prior, who rode herself to breaking point, literally. Charlie Idda, the FoTP Rider of The Night – 270 on, 270 out almost put him in the final, and James Smith, who after a steady start, ended up stomping sweet moves over the pipe and flat down…just goes to show what a little warm up can do, as James collected the best unsponsored rider award for the night.

The ladies were also putting on a fine show with technical prowess and subtle style and even gave most of the guys a run for their money.

FBBB_tam_skier_shockSarah Morgan was a culprit, throwing down smooth boardslide 270’s and Kirsty Smith, made the final three with some silky snowboarding, Her smooth, laid back style shone out amongst the all crazy spins and tweaks.

In the final, Lyndsey Ashdown was the Lady with all moves, a solid display of riding which was sealed with a sweet 5-0 front one out, grabbing Lyndsey free entry to the FBBB MK final.

Johnny Russel took the top place for the men on a night where the judges had real trouble deciding who should have been in the final in the first place. The riders at this Tam session sure didn’t mess about with the showing off, and the inclusion of Si Foster, Matt Higson, Tom Hunt and John Weatherly in the final, demonstrates the quality of the riding. If there was a trick variation missed out, we want to know about it.

Crazy times at Tamworth FBBB. Not quite as crazy as driving home at 3 o’clock in the morning and watching the sun start to rise…the things we do for a bit of shred eh?!

But it was hella worth it. Bring on the next one!
