She’s Fuller herself.

Aimee Fuller has been mooching about the UK scene for a few years now, slowly but surely climbing the ranks of the international scene and making a name for herself.

FoTP caught up with one of the UK’s best female riders to gain a hint of inside information on Aimee’s high flying life as a snow pro, her recent success in NZ and what she would be doing if the world was a snowless landscape. Enjoy.

Massive thanks to www.jmoagphotography.co.uk for the shots of Aimee.

Getting Personal with Aimee Fuller.

Hello Aimee! Thanks for taking the time to answer a few questions! Back from some time in NZ. How was it ?

It was EPIC, it was such an experience to travel to the other side of the world, to meet new people and compete in some Southern Hemisphere comps.

You entered a few big events while you were out there, namely the Burton Open and the winter games. What was it like to be on the other side of the world and compete in such high level events. It must be pretty exhilarating, especially when you get on the podium?

It was really cool to enter some contests when I was down there, I entered the NZ Open and the NZ Winter games, I thought I would enter the contests more for experience as I want to focus more on progressing with my riding. Although it was such a great feeling to get on the podium at the NZ winter games, I was not expecting that at all!

You had an impressive season last winter. We remember you doing well at events in Europe and in the USA. Are you going to do it all again this winter? Do you have any aims or objectives for the coming season ?

I aim to progress as much as possible, I have just finished school so I am hoping to travel more often and do some higher level TTR contests, maybe some in the USA, I will just see how my riding progresses throughout the year and go from there.

aimee_thumbSo how does Aimee Fuller prepare for the big event. It’s not like you can ride the local dryslope and then get out and hit up some 40ft kicker. What do you have to do to get to that level, and how long has it taken?

I don’t ride dryslope, or indoors I live in Northern Ireland so there are very limited facilities over here, in fact there is one dryslope in the whole country but it has no freestyle element whatsoever! So I kind of gave up on that one. I joined the GB Junior team 2 years ago and that really helped me to progress, going away with the team on school holidays and heading out to some of the bigger contests, as well as riding with the European Roxy team. That has given me the base to get to the level I am at now. So thank you Sonia Shaw and Roxy!

It looks like you are certainly on the up with your riding, and we hope it continues for you, have there been any standout moments or ones that you would like to forget?

Definitely the highlight of my NZ trip were back flips, I love the feeling! When I find a jump I like I just keep doing them! A standout moment is when I broke my collarbone in the first hour of my trip on a family holiday to Colorado a few years back that was not fun, I literally could do no sport for 2 months and missed the rest of the season, since then I have calmed down with my riding.

Is there a life outside of snowboarding…you must spend so much time travelling it’s hard to settle down and relax ?

For sure there is a life outside of snowboarding, when I am home that is! I have some really good buddies over here in NI, I got home from NZ on Thursday and was away up to the North Coast to surf for the weekend, I am not the best at it yet, but I am working on it! Now I think the jetlag is finally hitting me though!

Big thanks for the time for the interview Aimee, We hope you’ve enjoyed it. Final question for you – if you weren’t snowboarding…what would you be doing right now?

I would probably be competing in Motocross, I started to Motocross when I was 6, and competed in the British Championships when I was younger. The past couple of years my snowboarding has taken over, and I have just sold my YZ125 although my brother still has a bike, so when I get some freetime I go down to the track with him!
