A Perfect SnoStorm.

Published on: 7th December, 2009

Friday the 4th of December saw the final SNO!Storm of 2009 hit the Milton Keynes SNO!Zone, and FoTP thought that it was only right to go and check out some of the action, to see what was on offer and how one of the most popular events on the UK freestyle calendar went down.

In case you not familiar, SNO!Storm is a freestyle spectacular, hosted by the SNO!Zone centres around the UK at intervals throughout the year.

Aimed at all riders out there, snowboards or skis, these park nights are massive and encourage a large range of riders at all abilities, to rock out in the freezer with an evening of shred stunts and freestyle trickery. The parks take up the whole hill – on SNO!Storm nights there are no lessons, just a dome full of riders complimented by some pretty banging tunes keeping the vibe fully amped.

SNO!Storm is a big deal, especially for the domes, and these huge freestyle bonanza’s slap you in the face like a fresh snowball. Just walking out to the lift gets you stoked for the nights riding ahead as you cruise up the button and survey the setup. This time round, the park was no less than epic and offered a huge variety of features dotted about the hill. From the rookie park on the lesson slope to the monster booter, it had all been crafted carefully by the MK shapers. The list of features was huge…here it is:

Two medium kickers, one large kicker, the Red Bull flatbox, a side-on flatbar, a big rainbow box, a down pipe, a double pipe corner setup, a rocket barrel, a rocket gas pipe, a c-box and an inverted rainbow box

That’s a setup that any mountain would be proud of, yet here it was being sessioned by the masses that had descended on the MK freezer.

A nice touch at this Storm, was to get a few of the local SNO!zone sponsored riders in the mix and on the mic, and encourage riders to hit up some of the features on the hill and get their skills noticed.

As the mic travelled around the slope and riders stomped numerous tricks, some goodies were awarded to riders ripping up the hill, for effort, style and enthusiasm. These prizes weren’t any old tosh either…an FoTP regular won a transceiver for stomping some rad styles!

It was double rad to see the rookies getting involved too. Local rider Gazza man-handled the mic over to the Rookie park, and got the junior riders involved in the action. Plenty of onlookers, but even more shredders queued on the hill waiting to drop in, the session was frantic, but looked great fun.

The last SNO!storm of the year was thrown down by the MK crew and all the riders that joined in. If these standards are anything to go by, then 2010’s Storm events will be insane and definitely worth the base wax.

Now go enjoy the shots in the gallery below for the last of the MK action this year.
