Another awesome day at the Burton European Open, and it’s been the turn of the slopestyle qualification heats for both the men and women today.
The only UK male to make the cut after yesterdays Pre-Qualifiers was Jamie Nicholls, following on from his Semi Final at the O’Neill Evolution last week, he’s only gone and done it again, taking 14th place.
It was a tough heat, as Jamie was up against international talent in the form of Luka Jeromel from Slovinia, Janne Lipsanen of Finland and Sean Ryan from the US. All big hitters and all with some insane tricks up their sleeves..
Jamie held his nerve and put down an awesome first run, scoring a nice 65.67, only to follow up with a slightly more stylish run of 67.00 from his second. BANG! Semi finals again!
Epic shred from Jamie, who also scored higher than last years Rookie World Champion Roope Tontori.
He’s going to have it all to ride for as the semis will see the introduction of the invited riders – expect the action to be sick!
The Womens qualification also went down today, with the likes of Aimee Fuller and Claire Frost hoping to emulate their performances from the Chicken Jam over the weekend.
Aimee put down a solid first run out of two, to claim a comfortable 4th place in qualification, and a spot in the semi finals.
Claire Frost unfortunatley had a tough time of it, and could find the form to hold down her best run, missing out on the semi finals by only gaining the points for 30th position.
Claire was also joined by Rebecca Cullum (36th), Samantha Rogers (41st) and Gemma Marshall (46th). They just couldn’t find the tricks to get those crucial qualification scores from the judges.
As always, great to see our lady riders getting in the mix at these huge international events, and we’re loking forward to the action over the coming few days – Womens pipe and Mens slopestyle semi final tomorrow…we’ll keep you posted!
