The UK scene is a funny beast. The summer scene if full of some of our finest riders, while the winter season, even with all it’s hustle and bustle, is often quiet as far as events are concerned as many of the UK’s and coming rippers get those tricks down on the busy winter parks.
FoTP’s trip up to Tamworth on Saturday night was going to be interesting. Events in the UK over the in winter are few and far between; we were hoping the Blowout would be blowing up the Snowdome into the wee hours.
While the night wasn’t really a comp, the addition of the Burton rails to the Tamworth compliment added a more challenging touch to the nights shred. No real “stairs” were present for that extra gnarl, but the rails themselves, especially the short and sharp double kink presented enough challenge for the few who dared.
A few hand outs from the Burton crew and some volume on the music and the night was rocking, as a wealth of tricks were being thrown down from some unknown faces as well as a few of the usual suspects.
It was certainly a night for the camcorder as most tricks consisted of high speed reverts, spins onto and off of the features. These tech pieces don’t really make for good photos, so it was lucky that FoTP was there with both cameras to capture the action, especially as we had massive equipment failure early in the night!
Enough about bum technology, and on to the riding, as thats why we were there.
Matt Higson was throwing down with his usual style and skill, as Sam Derne found monsterous pop to olly into front board onto the Tamworth gas pipe. Mike Austin made a welcome appearance to hit up the flat bat and kink with some solid front lip style and Luke Lightwood stepped up the technicality of the night with hardway back 3’ on 360 out. Sick.
Ridiculous skill considering that the night wasn’t offering any big prizes or temptations for self destruction.
The Oughton bros, Jack and Dan also deserve a shout for shred effort, as does Tom Walker and his buddy in the blue hoodie for throwing some smooth styles on all three of the main hits. Zach Stanford, made the trip up from London on the bus just to get wild and lock out a few front boards on the Tam features.
And finally, not forgetting Fiona Sweetman, we think, representing for the girls until the final whistle, street styled boardslides to switch for good measure.
Another solid night of good times and riding at the Snowdome.
Our final shout goes to all those folks that endured the late night drive home. The 3 o’clock in the morning finish is a killer.
