0910 Season Review – The Good.

Published on: 27th April, 2010

Welcome to FoTP’s end of season review!

Where do we start? So much to talk about and so little space to do it in! This year we thought we’d dish it out in four parts. The Good, The Rad and The Fugly all topped off with a sprinkling of our opinion of all that hearty goodness.

This past season, our British snowboard scene has been going off, and we have been properly stoked to be right in the middle of it, getting a birds eye view of all the action as it unfolded.

It’s been an epic season for GB riding if you’ve been watching, from all corners of the globe, our riders have placed themselves in amongst the upper echelons of international stardom on more that one occasion.

With results coming thick and fast, from Europe, the Americas and down under in 2009, it’s been quite a challenge to keep up with what has been going on.

As a nation we’re still not gaining recognition along side other great snowboarding nations, like Finland or Austria, but we are certainly on the way, and as our riders have proven this year,  our lack of mountains and snow certainly doesn’t stop us producing the talents on our plastic fantastic.

Even our retired riders continue to mix it up with the worlds best!

FoTP had a busy season, keeping beedy eye on the as much action as we could find, and we’ve picked out a few morsels that gave us that warm, stoked out feeling.

Tyler Chorlton, leads the line for his video part in the Pirate Film for this season. He was the first GB name to get in the cinematic mix this year, followed closely by Jenny Jones in the all girl film Stance.

While they might not have been headline appearances, it is great to see British talents appearing in more flicks regularly now. And it’s brought a few more of our riders into gaze of the lens. We’re sure we’ll see more from Tyler and Jenny together with the talents of Gary Greenshields on celluloid next season. Look out for them.

News coming back from our riders about the globe has been the main focus this season especially from the ladies with plenty of news to shout about. Inspired performances from many GB females was a suprise at the beginning of the season, but we’re now looking forward to seeing more of the same next winter.

Laura Berry, Claire Frost and Vicci miller, together with Lynsey Ashdown out in the USA have all bagged scores we can be proud of. We’re certain that they are going to be stoked for more of the same next year too.

good_thumbAimee Fuller deserves a special shout, as she has put herself amongst the big guns on more that one occasion this winter. Results in NZ, plenty of TTR points and even a nomination for best Euro Rookie means Aimee into one to watch for the future. A big podium is surely only a few stomped landings away, as is that top 10 TTR finish.

Of course it not been just the girls that have making the headlines either. Plenty of other dudes have also had a share of the season spoils.

Jack Shackleton and Lewis Courtier-Jones have both ridden well, and we were stoked to see more of our home grown talent getting results. The junior events haven’t been abundant this season, with no Burton AM for example,  but it was sick to see Rowan Coultas ride the Euro X Games, and wee Becky Menday demonstrated courage and glimmers of a fine snowboarding future following some daunting big air experiences at the BEO.

The mighty Katie Ormerod keeps GB junior flame held high, as she continues to ride well above her years in everything she enters. Another future champion? You’ll have to wait and see.

So that it for the good stuff this season. We’ve probably missed a few, but there was so much of it, decisions were difficult. We were stoked to be a part of it. Just wait until you read about the RAD next week!
