Charlie's Blog - Road Trip

Hey

Had a really busy couple of days riding with the stoke crew, filming and fooling around. Set off at 10.30 in the minibus from Stoke to Rossendale, weather was unusual raining then uber hot was really muggy all day thank god for sprinklers. I was just practicing true tail grabs and high mutes all day. Also jumping on the invert train with a load of the guys from stoke. Jordan rocked up and rocked out learning rodi 5's was a really good session lots of footage and fun.

After everyone had just destroyed themselves on the Rossendale jump, it was off to Cas Vegas for some more Stoke massive carnage. The setup was average everyone thought they were going to have a bad time but it ended up being awesome learning nose butters and pretzels everywhere. We rode till about 10 past 11 cause we hiked after they turned the lifts off they just couldn't get us off the slope. Then a big greasy 1/2 pounder cheeseburger from a pie shop stand outside Xscape a great way to finish off the night.

Didn't get home till 2 only a few more hours till we were off on tour again a quick nap then back on the riding at Mk the night after.

Milton Keynes was also a really good night, there were loads of those serrated gas pipes about and lots of street style jumps onto rails. I was just practicing my 270's on all night from the side ons and pretzeling wherever i
could. Props to Lil Liam Beardsmore for learning 450's off the up gas pipe and Lon for attempting a front flip on it also.

Other than that what an awesome couple of days time to give my body a rest i think

PEACE.

Charlies Blog - Chatham Slopestyle

Hey Again

Went down to Chatham, Kent for the dryslope slopestyle championships. Had to set off at like 6 in the morning to get there on time. Slept the whole way there. So got there in no time at all really.

When i arrived i jumped out the car and checked out the setup which was schweeet loads of rails and the jump was big. Bit of a flat landing but was still cool. Weather was nice got myself all registered and kitted up then went for a shred. 3 runs after not landing anything i stormed off and demanded to go home. I had forgotten how much of an art it is to ride perma snow it has to be the slipperiest slope in the world.

Anyway i bit my tongue and got on with it, after a few more runs i started to adjust my weight and i wasn't falling over so much. The Big air jam was pretty fun i was just maching it in going as big as i could. Soon that was all over with and i could have a rest it was sooo hot and i couldn't get enough juice down me.

Slopestyle qualifiers were scary if i fell on both runs i knew then i would be all over so i stayed quite sensible throughout and landed both my runs. Which qualified me in first which i was stoked with. Back to the top the for the finals with my little cousin Harry Hancock and fear of the park team mate Jordan Bailey pressure was on, butterflies going once again.

First run went super sweet with a switch on to 2 out the top rail to a 270 disaster on the flat down to a lincoln saftey grab off the small jump to 270 on the 40foot animal rail. I was really happy with how clean my run went and watching everyone elses run just made me more nervous.

kink_rail.jpg

My second run was a little scarier i decided i landed my first run sweet so i've gotta do something a little bit more special. So i threw the 450 disaster onto the kink. I went a little too fast and just slipped out but i was fine and dandy after and just finished my run off with a smile on my face.

Podium_Chatham.jpg

In the end my first run was enough to seal the win which was a very nice cheque. A great day all in all. Props to my lil coz H who ripped all day and grabbed a 3rd overall and to Jordan too who ripped also.

Charlies Blog - Les 2 alpes

Hey All

Sorry I haven't posted in a while been jet setting and stuff. Went on a 10 day trip with Joe Murrell (pistol flip boy) to Les 2 Alpes. We decided to drive over took absolutely ages so I met Joe in London at lunch time and we got into Grenoble at 1 o clock Joe was to tired from driving and i was nodding off in the passenger seat so we decided to stay at some sketchy motel, which we payed for on a little machine "strange".

The next morning, bright an earlier we drove round and round and round Grenoble for about an hour an a half, no thanks to my map reading skills. When we got there we just chilled out and took it easy sorted out our place to stay and got settled.

The glacier park was sooo sick soo much to do the queuing wasn't ideal but was still good. Hiked the pipe alot got some good shots and learn't Rodeo 5s the proper way woop woop. The days flew past with a few bad weather days got abit of trampolining in and lounged by the pool the rest of the time working on my goggle marks haha. All in all a great way to spend 10 days.

Charlies Blog - Rossendale Open

Just a quick post.

Was at the rossendale open on sunday. It was pretty fun despite the fact i had a good and really bad day. The qualifying was cool we just got to ride for an hour and a half, then at the end they decided who qualified by handing them bibs.

Loads of the Ski Stoke crew represented and made it into the finals. WOOP

In the little break that we had before the finals i was having a play on the 1/4 pipe i managed to rip my heel piece out and land completely on my head on half a rotated backflip sooo not the best of luck in the space of 15 minutes.

Finals started i borrowed some skis off pooch and i was back riding after a couple of paracetamol. Basically the idea was everyone got to hit 3 things first the kicker, second the box or rail and third you could choose either. Best 2 runs count. I managed to qualify for the super finals along with RyRy one of the stoke boys, Charlie richards from sheffield and Harry Tomlinson who rode sick, nailing D-spin 7's well done buddy. I managed to grab a 3rd in the over 16s category which im pretty stoked with.

Big shout out to Liam Beardsmore who rocked up really late managed to qualify for finals and come 3rd in the U16's overall. Also to Ryan Harris aka RyRy who worked really hard all day trying new tricks and coming 2nd in the U16's those frontflips will get nailed next time. WATCH OUT FOR THE STOKE MASSIVE haha

The FoTP Lowdown

We asked Charlie some questions...here's how he answered.

Why do you snowboard or ski?
Got the buzz at my local slope in Stoke 5 years ago don’t know why I started picked it up really quickly in the end it was inevitable I also ski because its cooler than snowboarding haha (just joking)

How much wood could a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood?

Is this a trick question about Chuck Norris. Chuck Norris does not sleep. He waits
The following is a short list of things Chuck Norris cannot do: ….!

What’s the worse trick – you know the one that makes you go …STOP IT !!

A spaffy in between a daffy and a spread, a real old school trick but I tell myself they look good in 180s

Tell us about your best experience, the most fun or exciting thing you’ve done, on the snow or off the snow?

On the snow , it would be the day I did my first backflip of the season such a relief I did them off every wind lip I could find went home stoked and woke up in the morning and I couldn’t sit up properly for 2 days my stomach muscles were shredded Ow!
Off the snow, would be the big ass bungee in Les Deux Alpes, 140 meter free fall until the rope catches but looking out was scary enough let alone jumping.

What else do you do? – you can’t shred the rad all the time – do you have any other hobbies or interests ?
I have an insane skate park where I live called the plaza, its supposed to be one of the best street spots in the UK so I try my hand at inline skating but I suck pretty bad, I trampoline occasionally other than that if I’m not shredding I’m thinking bout shredding.

Every one what to learn new tricks…How do you go about learning a new trick? Any advice you can give other riders?
Trampolining helps with aerial awareness especially if your going upside down other than that if you feel it and you see it In your head you can land it go for it. You’ll feel so much better for doing so even if u do end up eating it.

Favourites time….what’s your favourite breakfast, your favourite pair of shoes, your favourite music, favourite hat, and favourite day of the week and favourite computer game?
Breakfast would have to be Lucky charms cereal from the states someone should import them. I love vans slip-ons and my DCs they're comfy but I want some high tops next.
Loving Washed your car by Cloud Cult at the mo but a lot of gansta tunes through indie to reggae, a good mix. My favorite Hat would have to be my tall blue stripey beanie from reading festival memories everytime I wear it one of the best weekends of my life. Favourite day is any day I get to lie in at home. :P Guitar hero I, II and III are amazing I can thrash that till my fingers go numb.

How many comps have you entered and what was your most memorable?
Which one would you like to forget?’

I’ve entered sooo many but the most memorable would be Castleford aim 2005 I won the best unsponsored skier giving me sponsorship at Sno!zone changed my life cheesy I know but CAS is the mutts nuts.
I’d like to forget natural born riders I was having a bad day couldn’t land any of my stock tricks so last run I thought Id take it really slow after crashing my first run ended up taking off the jump sideways on a 180 just rattled myself a little but damn that was annoying.

Being on our team means your pretty good – but what would you like to achieve with your riding? Are you going to be a competition winner or the camera man’s favourite?
I think I want to go into coaching the young up n coming rippers well that’s the plan. I’m still going to compete but not as seriously as a few years ago so camera man’s favourite fo sure.

Out of all the places you may have been in the world…where’s your favourite? Where would you like to go the most?
Northstar at Lake Tahoe in California the jibbers Capital.

And the last one – if you were given £1000…what would you do with it?
I'd book a flight straight to Japan for the skiing its supposed to be EPIC or
go visit my friend Frederico in Brazil, SURFS UP!
