Gazzas Blog - 4 days to go.....

Yo!

Only 4 days until i go to Saas-Fee now, I am so looking forward to it. Two others from the FOTP crew (Henry & Olly) and I will be going, plus a load of other people I haven't met before will be on the camp as well.

I am going on the trip for the British Freestyle Junior squad selection. Henry and Olly are already in the Squad but they are going to Saas Fee anyway.

The set out of the week is basically a snowboard camp, we will be coached for the week and then they will pick out some people who they think have potential to go further in their sport. We all meet at the airport this weekend and fly out to Switzerland. From the airport we get a coach to Saas Fee, settle in and get ready to shred the following day. We will be shredding untill midday (as it is a glacier) and then we will do team activities, fitness training and skating in the afternoon. As you may know by my previous posts i do love skating so i am well looking forward to that.

We have to leave the hotel at like 8 am every morning to get a descent shred crying I don't even know how i am going to do that, i just don't do 'getting up early'...

I think i am looking forward to skating out there just as much as the snowboarding haha.

The camp focuses on jumps and pipe and not so much on rails, which is the main reason i am doing it. because I love rails so much at the moment that when there is a kicker out i just don't hit it because i am to busy on the rails so I hope by doing this camp I will learn to enjoy kickers and pipe more than I do now, and obviously to improve on them.

I have heard Saas Fee is a wicked resort, I haven't been there before so I asked a lot of people about it and haven't heard a bad review yet.

So anyway I'm off as i have lame art coursework to do. angry
bye.

Gazza Blog - Pow Wow '07

Hi People.

I know its really late, and happened agess ago, but i thought i would write about the Pow Wow Rail battle in 2007.

It was a rail comp in Augsburg, Germany, we drove there in two cars setting off at half 6 Wednesday afternoon. the crew was Me, Steve Revill, Chris Chatt and Neil Campbell on the snowboarder side of things. Marky Marx, Ted Foster and Max were the skiers. So anyway, we set off down to dover and got a ferry over the channel and then drove to Brussels. We stayed the night in a little hotel in Brussels and got up early the next morning to begin to drive to Augsburg.

They had a practice session on the rails Thursday night but we didn't get there early enough to use it, as we had an eventful drive there that involved lots of snowboard movies, Ted skating along the autobahn during a traffic jam and just general jokes.

When we did finally get there we couldn't find the hotel. But eventually we did and got some well earned rest. the next morning we got up, registered and went to shred. it was so busy we only got two practice runs and then two judged runs. sadly the only snowboarder to get through was Chatt, he was put up against Paz Gruber who just beat him after 4 hard fought rounds, Paz then went on to place second in the whole competition. the next day was the super final and as none of us were in it we slept in and then went down mid morning to watch. it was an epic final with Gerben Verweij winning it in the end. that night was epic, i wont go into detail but it involved drink, wheel-chairs and moustaches.

Oh and the event got put into Document snowboard magazine (bottom pick)

The FoTP Lowdown

We asked Gazza some questions...here's how he answered.

Introduce yourself in the style of a TV game show host.
Hey there, and welcome to Fear of the Park. My Names Gazza and I will be your host for this evening, you may remember me from such films as……

Why do you snowboard or ski?
Well I won a competition in 2003 for the O’neill snowboard academy to learn to snowboard in a day with some of the O’neill pro team ie; Gian Simmen, Jenny Jones and Jeremy Jones. I picked it up quickly as I could already skate. I didn’t ride again for like a year after that as I just never got round to it. So finally I did and went to a few breakfast club sessions. One of the guys at SNO!zone saw me riding there and thought I had potential so he said to come to the invitation only session on a teusday night for £10 (R.I.P). (they went on change to the any-one-can-go-£25-academy) but oh well.

How much wood could a wood chuck chuck, if a wood chuck could chuck wood?
My brain hurts =S.

What’s the worse trick – you know the one that makes you go …STOP IT !!
Every trick is kool if you do it with style.

Tell us about your best experience, the most fun or exciting thing you’ve done, on the snow or off the snow?
Some mental history lesson in year 9. I actually started crying with laughter.

What about your most scary experience? That one that made you go “WOAH!!
Man that was lucky!
Nearly fell over a banister at school to a 40ft drop. I actually peed a little.

What else do you do? – you can’t shred the rad all the time – do you have any other hobbies or interests ?
I rule with an old skate deck on my trampoline.

Every one what to learn new tricks…How do you go about learning a new trick? Any advice you can give other riders?
Visualise yourself doing it then drop In before you can think of how it could go wrong.

Do you have any annoying slope habits? What do you finds annoying on the slopes?

I am a bit loud and aggressive toward anyone that jumps of the side of run ins to rails. That’s also what annoys me the most.

Favourites time….what’s your favourite breakfast, your favourite pair of shoes, your favourite music, favourite hat, and favourite day of the week and favourite computer game?
Cheerios, my globes skate shoes, black sun empire, Saturday and SSX on tour.

How many comps have you entered and what was your most memorable?
Which one would you like to forget?

Loads of comps, Thirteen was sick and I wish I could forget Burton AM tour in Bansko
(I fell in practice and didn’t compete)

Being on our team means your pretty good – but what would you like to achieve with your riding? Are you going to be a competition winner or the camera man’s favourite?
I wanna film a really sick video part for someone like Autumn Line or Under Par.

Out of all the places you may have been in the world…where’s your favourite? Where would you like to go the most?
Tahoe, went there in the summer and would love to go back in the winter.

And the last one – if you were given £1000…what would you do with it?

Hookers. Haha.
